Archaeobotanical museum garden

Gardens and parks are areas of diversity and places to meet, to relax and experience nature with all your senses. This also applies to our archaeobotanical museum garden: 300 square metres in size, it offers visitors an opportunity to touch nature and to gain an insight into the diversity of our cultural plants. Alongside ancient grain varieties and types of vegetables and berries that have almost been forgotten, the garden also contains plants that serve as sources of protein or oil, medicinal plants and aromatic herbs as well as plants that were once indispensable for dyeing fabric. The events in the garden are dedicated to a special theme each year.

Our museum garden is also an invaluable insect habitat in the middle of the canton’s capital city. Numerous species find food and shelter here. Take a walk around the green oasis, go from one patch to the next and marvel at the vast array of plants, or you could just sit on a bench and eat your packed lunch, read a book and relax. And last but not least, you may even take home some inspiration for your own garden or balcony.

The archaeobotanical museum garden is a member of the Lake Constance Gardens network and was awarded its “Nature in the Garden” badge in 2016.
